I was so happy that we had an initiation and were able to add two very special new members to our Bethel--Olivia and Jenna P. This is Martha and Bill's 3rd and 4th daughter to be initiated. A big thanks to girls from Bethel #2, #22, and #107 for coming to help.

I almost teared up when I made my remarks and then when Rustie started to speak I really did need the tissues. It has been a great year. I love the Daughters of this Order and really do

bee-lieve they are the best!

I am about ready to finish loading the car, then it is off to Grand Session. They had quite a turnout. Vicki and I drove up after stopping to eat at 5 Guys Hamburgers. That was the first time for me and I want to go back.

Lindsey Noland was one of the Daughters, who received her majority. I was at Job-A-Rama in 2001 when she was initiated. It is hard to believe all that has happened in the last 10 years. Besides Lindsey we have watched many girls grow and mature through their Job's Daughters life.

Her dad, Michael and I were Grand Officers that year for Linda and Dan. Michael has already served his year as AGG and my year as GG is coming to an end.

Saturday evening, Taylor O. and her corps of officers was installed at #121. It was a very nice Installation and we are now getting ready to initiate Olivia and Jenna tonight. What a great way to spend my last night at home before Grand Session. If the 2 initiations at Daleville happened last night, this will give us 78 new members this year.

Anita, GG

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Last night, Franklin initiated Autumn into their Bethel. I took Rustie, Jasmine, and Taylor O. to help. Debbi brought Rustie and Jasmine to Brazil and then went along with us. Six girls from #22 were also there, as well as Brettney Nelson, so the floor was real full and things went great.

We had the most delicious brownies after the meeting which went along with the Librarian's report over the history of brownies. I had a very small one. Christina Click can sure bake.

Before we left Franklin, the girls were treated to McFlurries at McD's by the ABG Stephen Click. I guess Tracy Cooksey always buys the #22 girls shakes when they take a road trip and Mr. Click did not want our girls to feel left out.

Today is a day at the computer trying to finalize things for next week.

Anita, GG

Monday, June 13, 2011

Yesterday, Hailey and I picked up Taylor O. and we went to the GB Region #5 Bowling Party in Terre Haute. We had 4 of our Daughters and our two new candidates at #121, Olivia and Jenna. We also had Martha's grandkids and the little ones really had a good time. I never did find out who had high score. I got to hold Kaiden, Martha and Bill's new grandson--light as a feather. Jamie also called in from MS, where she is now stationed with the navy. Martha and I are doing a road trip in July to bring her home while she is on leave.

After the bowling, we all enjoyed pizza provided by Jasmine's parents. It was really a lot of fun, but I was glad to turn Hailey over to her mommy.

Tonight Carmel #68 is initiating and I heard tomorrow night #38 is, but I do not know how many. I cannot go to either, but do plan on being in Franklin on Wednesday for their initiation.

Anita, GG

Sunday, June 12, 2011

I spent the day at the computer yesterday, trying to get things done for Grand Session. Then I had to rush to get ready to pick up Taylor, so we could go to #107's Installation. We stopped at Vicki's and she actually took us from there. There were so many folks I had not expected to see. Although, I had a call earlier in the day from my Misses. I am not sure what they were up to yesterday. I am not supposed to ask any questions. Anyway, Rustie, Genesis, and Maddy greeted me along with Jennifer G. and Becca. Stephanie, Joe, and Tammy were there with all of their Misses. Markanda had just been installed as HQ that afternoon at #108 and Mahaley was being installed at #107.

Jamie M's retirement was very moving. Her remarks were so sweet to her guardian, Lila, Tiffany, and most of all her mom. Then Mahaley's Installation was quite beautiful. She looked that way too. I especially loved her hair in curls.

After some delicious refreshments--3 different cakes (red velvet is best) and at least 2 different homemade cookies (Yeah, snickerdoodles), we finally tore Vicki away (she is still hard at work on Grand Session), collected Rustie, and headed home.

I sure slept in this morning. It was after 6. I now race to the computer to see if I have an email from Allen. He has been in Afghanistan about 9 days now. They are 8 1/2 hours ahead of us. I had never heard of a time zone on the 1/2 hour. I thought everyone ran on the hour, like we do in this country. I did not do countdowns to GS last year and I am not doing them this year, but I'm definitely doing one until he gets home--170 days. He really hates the food, so I will have to try to figure out some care packages.

We have Region 5 Get-together today. I am taking Hailey, while the rest of Megan's family goes to Beef and Boards to see Cinderella.

Anita, GG

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Last night Rustie, Elecia, Vicki, and I attended Grand Chapter in Indianapolis. There were a lot of other Job's people there, such as Bonita, Wanda, the Clonces, Jean Weese, Sandie Thomas, and PGBHQ Cindy Essig. She was not the only PGBHQ as Barbara Krakowski Holmes, the Worthy Grand Matron fo Nevada was also there. She will be at our Session also. Elecia did a beautiful job of speaking on behalf of Job's Daughters. I was also pleased to see Emmalee #25, Vanessa #37, and Jamie #107 there to receive Eastern Star scholarships. I believe Tiffany will have the whole list on the web page. I do know Mandy #121 received one, but was not able to be there because of work.

I also got to visit with my other Grand Family--The Harmony Bells. I was District Deputy 25 years ago. Three of my deputy sisters were there as well as, Mama Markie and our Grand Martha, Joyellen, PGM. I am hoping to get to share more time with them after this year.

It was sort of bittersweet to know this would be the last time, except for our Session, that Rainbow, DeMolay, Job's, and Star will all be together sharing an evening like that. I did get to speak to the next WGM and WGP for a few minutes. Deby and Rob are both great people and Rob is the son of our own PAGG Jim Maines. He was not there, but did get to visit briefly with Rob's mom, Linda. I miss both of these people and wish they still lived in Indiana. Jim will be up for Deby's and Rob's reception July 16, so maybe will get to see him there.

Rustie convinced my to go to 107's Installation tonight, so maybe I will see some of you there.

Anita, GG

Saturday, June 4, 2011

I know I am behind again. It just seemed like all I could get done for the last couple of weeks in May were subbing (I finished the year with 118 days to my credit) and getting myself ready for Allen to leave for Afghanistan. He is in Qatar right now with his plane scheduled to leave this afternoon to continue his journey to Kabul.

Last night, I attended #110's Installation. I got the chance to visit briefly with Joyce Scott. She was the last GG to have an outdoor OV. It was also at the Shrine Hill Country Place in Terre Haute. She shared that she also had some rain. Our last OV will definitely be one I think we will always remember. First, it was great to initiate 2 new Daughters--AJ is even from #121. Second, we overcame the rain, planes, trains, motorcycles, and wind. Third, the fellowship afterwards was super. What a bunch of really good food. I cannot thank enough all the people, who did so much extra, to have this day be what I wanted.

Thursday night Elecia and I attended the Royal Court of Indiana, Order of the Amaranth in Evansville. We started at 8:00 our time and the room was really warm. We did get to meet up with some old friends--the Fishers were there (Phil is a grand officer) and Juanita Cox was in the choir and did a tribute to the Indiana Flag. I also got to briefly visit with some acquaintances from when I taught in Brown County--Ivan Lancaster and Marion Crum. Marion will be the new Grand Royal Patron. Our Supreme Queen of Nile, Sue Layman, was also there. She was at my initiation into Nile several years ago. Elecia took quite a shine to her and wanted to wear her crown. I got home around 1:30 and Elecia still had another hour and half to drive. Thank Heavens God watches over us.

We have such a short time left and it will be super busy, but I will be attending some more of the meetings (we have more initiations) and Grand Chapter.

Antia, GG

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

I am at Grand Lodge this morning or at least at the hotel. We had a wonderful dinner last night. The Coopers, Elecia and Bonita, and I were at a table together. Next to ours was our Grand Chaplain's, Carey and his wife, Kathy. Next to that table was our PGG and PAGG, the Trobaughs. It was good to get caught up with them and she had some really nice things to say to me. Sharon was GG when Megan was dedicated. We also got to visit with other friends, ie. James Gordan and Breonna Hensel of DeMolay and Rainbow and the Star people Kathy and Bill and his wife Lynn. It is funny how you start your year and run into these people off and on all through it. Of course, we saw George and Karen Ingles. We are so proud of them both. The Grand Master and his wife Paula were wonderful hosts. He visited every table.

Now back to baby dedications. On Saturday, it was a privilege to dedicate two darling babies. One of them was the great, great, great, great nephew or our own Mother Jacobs. I know she must have been beaming down on us. We also initiated #'s 63, 64, 65. Girls welcome to Muncie's Bethel.

The morning OV was at Huntington and the girls did a flower ceremony which none of us had seen before. They used my favorite yellow roses and then presented them to me (Lynn got one of the sprays).

I could not believe the bad weather we just missed on Sat. Huntington got 4 inches of rain after we left and Muncie had high winds after we left. I am hoping we keep on a roll and do not get any bad weather on Friday or Saturday this week so the OV can be outside.

Anita, GG

Sunday, May 1, 2011

It sure felt funny writing in today's date. That means next month is Grand Session. EEEEKKKK! We only have 3 more OV's, with the last being our (hopefully) outdoor one in Terre Haute at the Shrine Hill Country Place. Please RSVP to our Grand Librarian Lynell Myers if you are planning to attend. We need somewhat of a head count to know how many to plan for the cookout. Remember to bring a covered dish to go along with the hot dogs and hamburgers. The Bethels will be providing the drinks and dessert.

I said I would be writing about the new Misses in my next blog. Yes, the pageant is over and we have crowned four new young ladies. Congratulations to Carolyn, Miss Indiana; Maddy, Jr. Miss Indiana; Mahaley, Miss Congeniality; and Markanda, Jr. Miss Congeniality. While these four girls now belong to Stephanie and Joe, they each mean something to me. I got to know Carolyn when she served as Jr. Miss and was always impressed by her bubbling personality. Mahaley served on our Messenger Team at Supreme Session last year, so we got to spend time with her at Supreme, even though she always seemed to be on Tiffany's computer. Markanda impressed me at one of our first schools of instructions, when she said I am going to visit every Bethel this year so I can earn the extra travel points. She is getting close. I saved Maddy for last--our baby. I turned around and said to Stephanie after you were crowned, I'm giving you my baby.
I know you worked very hard to achieve this goal and I am so proud of you.

Pageants do not just happen. It has been a terrific weekend. Thank you to Kathy Coslet and Martha Poff, not just for the pageant but for all you do for me. Thanks to all the other workers, who were official and the ones who weren't, but just like true Job's people offered their help. It was a beautiful pageant and I am so proud of the rest of my girls for the job they did of MCing (Is that a word?) I love it when our Daughters get to shine and you three certainly did last night. I think having you introduce the girls and ask them the questions made them more comfortable and I know you certainly felt a lot closer to them. Sometimes, adults think only other adults can do a job, but the Job's Daughters never surprise me with what they can do. That is why I believe in you.

I will be back with my own Bethel this afternoon as we are taking refreshments to our Volunteer Fire Department's training session to show our appreciation for the men and women who actually lay their lives on the line for others. I know many bethels who have service projects like this in their community's and I am looking forward to seeing the Guardian's reports come in this month so I can read about all of yours.

Then I am taking a nap. All the girls checked in last night and had lots of pizza and took their tests. It has been so much fun seeing all their exuberance, smiles, and excitement. I have also been so happy to greet our out-of-state judges. They are all people I have had the privilege of meeting over the years and I respect each one of them a great deal.

Rustie and I got an early start to the weekend, as we attended a formal banquet of Indiana's Grand Commandary on Thursday night in Indianapolis. Rustie represented the Job's of Indiana with some beautiful remarks telling them about Job's Daughters in general and especially about our HIKE Fund. Rustie then escorted the Grand Master of Indiana in their Grand March and I was privileged to be escorted by James, the State Master Councilor. It was a lot of fun and afterwards we shared ice cream with David and Donna Miller. George and Karen Ingles were at the head table, as George was the MC. My sincerest apologies to Elecia. She was supposed to join us and I had told her about it when we first got the invite and even sent an RSVP for her, but then forgot to tell her where and when to be there.

I wish every Mason in Indiana had been able to hear the Grand Master's remarks as he told the men, we need to support all of our appellant bodies. I wish all of our Masons felt that way. I know the Masons at Knightsville are very supportive of our Bethel, but that is not always the case everywhere. I am so thankful for the Masons that do show our Daughters the love and support that they do.

My next update will be on the young ladies, who will be representing our state in the upcoming year. First, I want to say I have been so blessed with the four Daughters, who were selected last year to serve in our Grand Family. Rustie has been my constant travel companion and those long trips would definitely not have been the same without all of our sharing. Genesis has shown such energy and enthusiasm for everything during the year that I am energized just being around her. Mandy is my solid rock. She keeps me grounded. And Maddy is our little love and I will always look forward to her hugs. Hey, I am beginning to get misty. I need to go get ready for all of the days activities. Where does the time go. In two short months our year will be over. The pageant is just around the corner and I want to wish all the contestants a great deal of luck. I believe this experience will be one you will remember for your lifetime. Make new friends and enjoy it, whatever the outcome, you will have grown, because you were willing to make the effort.

I had so much fun holding the stop watch on the 11 set-up teams at Ritual Contest. I was so happy that so many competed in this new category, that I had especially requested. I was also thrilled to see the girls competing in the Senior Ritualist. What a way to really challenge yourself. All the contestants deserve a big hand for competing and Jamie Hadley an extra big hand for putting it all together. Thanks to the judges and others who gave their time for the girls.

Now for all the MM's who participated in Rustie's project--THANK YOU. The ones who were able to stay and watch were impressed. Those of us performing were nervous, at least I was. The singing sounded so awesome in that room. I wish all of our new members could be initiated there. Rustie will be giving a check to the Educational Foundation at Grand Session. If you have not paid her yet make your check out to Grand Guardian Council and get it to her ASAP.

Just a word about Purple Triangle weekend. I was pleased at the OV even though we did not have live candidates and as always the dance was fun. It is always good to have the chance to visit. While those of us who were staying at the Coslets' did not get much sleep, the girls staying at McKendry's got even less. When I arrived home I had just enough time to make it to Jamie Poff's going away party. She is now in training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station.

The price of gasoline is really putting a crimp in my travel. Yesterday, it went over $4 in Brazil, so I will not be doing as much as I wanted to in these last 2 months. We have very few events left, but I will be attending a lot of the other organizations' annual meetings.

Anita, GG

Friday, March 18, 2011

Last night, I traveled to Bethel #110. I was pleasantly surprised to see Michelle and Kendra from #86 there. I want to thank Kendra for not pinching me, because I wasn't wearing green. However, March has been a month I got to visit some of the Bethels to view their initiations of new Daughters. Brownsburg was first. I was surprised, as was the Bethel, when they initiated Samantha. The girls did an excellent job, even with such short notice. I did enjoy finally getting to Muncie to watch them initiate Shelby the next evening. I also attended the Initiation at Plainfield when Victoria, Kaitlin, and Contessa became our newest members.

Way to go Bethels. Remember each Bethel is challenged to initiate at least 2 new members this term.

Anita, GG

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Saturday, March 5 we gathered at Freemason Hall for the Grand Master's Youth Day. The Grand Bethel did a beautiful job of presenting the "String of Pearls Ceremony" for the Grand Master Ken Willis and his lovely wife, Paula. Our State Master Councilor James also joined us.

Elecia, thank you for putting this together for us. Also, thanks to all the girls who were a part of the ceremony, with a special thanks to Edie for playing the organ and Tiffany for cuing her.

After we left downtown, Rustie and I traveled to Fishers for their Soup Supper. Now, I am sure others will have a different story, but I really did know where I was going. I just could not figure out how to get there. It only took us and hour and a half to get there. Thanks again, Elecia, for the directions. The soup was good though and the fellowship wonderful, as I got to visit with Wanda's mom, Carol, who is my cousin.

Last Friday night, we had another OV. This one was at Shelbyville. Now, I do not know how many of you have heard that the ceiling in the Lodge Room fell in sometime in February, so we had to hold the OV in the room where the girls usually meet. It was a snug fit, but we made it.

Afterwards, we all got to share in thumbprint cookies. The librarian's report was on fingerprints. This has been a tradition with HQ Vanessa. She gives out small gifts to match her librarian's reports. I have received an umbrella in the past. I am just sorry I missed the crustables when the report was on peanut butter.

More tomorrow,

Anita, GG

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Last Saturday, we had a walk-through at Manchester College for our Grand Session. This just means we walked around and looked at the different buildings and decided for sure where we wanted things to be held. It was a windy day, but we survived. I hope many of you are planning to attend Grand Session in June. Ten of us went to lunch afterwards. It was good fellowship, but put Vicki and I way behind. We got to the cemetery where Mother Jacobs is buried almost an hour and a half late. I apologize to Jennifer Tansy and her girls, and Ronda Prather and Carolyn. Ronda took pictures and then they left. The #121 car and Genesis and Lila hung around and when we finally arrived, we placed the flowers and then there were more pictures. I do want to thank Hubert and Catherine Haynes for the lovely flower arrangement.

Now, back to catching up. On the 26th we had two wonderful OV's. The first was at Greenfield, an historic event as never before had there been an OV in the Hancock Temple. I loved it when Sara M. was presented with a long string of key chains. It seems #67 has a tradition of each marshal will add to this chain and then pass it down to the next one.

In the afternoon we met at Carmel with Bethels #34 and #68, where we initiated Sam into #68 and #34 read 2 petitions.

More later,
Anita, GG

Monday, March 14, 2011

It is almost spring, so I am going to turn over a new leaf and try to keep up with my blogging. Rustie and I talk about how bad we have been when we are on our many travels. Also, I am going to extend the contest as I am going to try to catch up this week. Girls, if you see your name you have a week to sign the guestbook and tell me you saw it.

Yesterday, Rustie, her mom, and I drove up to Clinton to their promotion party. It was well attended with 7 prospective members, not counting some prospective JD2B's, and family members. The girls had a lot of fun bowling and eating pizza. HQ Alisha did a marvelous job of making their visitors welcome. They know most of the girls are eligible, so we have high hopes for initiations soon.

The last time I blogged I did not write about the Night at the Museum. It was such a wonderful time and again I thank Rachel C. for thinking up this event and her mom, Julie for putting it all together. Just think over 100 Job's people getting together for an evening of fun. It was especially great to have Bethel #18 out of Louisville join us. Of course they did not have far to go. I also want to thank Stephanie for driving the GG and Bethel #121 on the trip down. I told her the best thing she could get next year was a driver.

Have you heard? From January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010 Job's Daughters in Indiana grew! We need to keep the trend going. I am excited about seeing them do the Initiation. Also, do not forget the Grand Master's Youth Day next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Free Mason Hall.

The second term OV's have started and at the first one last Saturday we initiated Sarah into Bethel #38. She is number 47 for the year. Will the men GO's have to perform? Only 53 more.

Girls remember when you have a joint OV and more than one officer in a station, only the officer speaking stands. I was honored to be escorted to the East and given a love gift from my District #8 Assoication. As only the Worthy Grands and Past Grands get escorted, I was completely confused. The Worthy Grand Matron, Kathy allowed them to do this and I so appreciate it. Kathy is a truly beautiful person and I hope if you have not met her, you will make an effort to do so. She told me she was jealous that I get to work with the lovely girls and she just has to put up with adults. We are hoping she will be able to attend a meeting and are checking our calendars to try to work it out.

Now mine was not the first surprise of the evening, as Peggy Wiggins, Guardian of #2 was also escorted, but to the altar where she was given the honor of being the next Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of California in Indiana. Peggy's son lives in CA, so she hopefully will be able to visit him when she goes. Their Grand Chapter is in Fresno, a place where Peggy, Vicki, and Kathy Coslet and I traveled for Grand Session several years ago. I am sure Peggy will enjoy her next trip there, just as much. Congratulations, Peggy.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

First, I want to thank the members of the Grand Family, who were involved in the practical joke at the Grand Officers retreat this past weekend. It is a good thing your GG is very forgiving. Of course, if I wasn't so gullible it would not have been so easy for you. By the way, Stephanie and Tiffany can attest to how hard I laughed when they confessed. Larry, you and I can take it, can't we?

We did have a lot of fun this past weekend. It was even half-way decent weather. Thanks to the Coopers for all of your hard work to do this for us. All the little snowmen in the hospitality room were such cute touches and we enjoyed our snack bags. I got some new For Bare Feet socks and 2 sugar free turtles.

I am supposed to include all of the silly things that were said by different folks, but I told them I would never remember everything, so let me try to couch this in a way you will all understand. Linda had a kinky phone and Denise was in the parking lot pimping? Stephanie was obscene and not heard and Larry definitely did not bring the grapes. Lynell gave me, my new favorite saying ala Alicia W. from #5--redundently ridiculous. Enough said, except I did teach several GO's their vocabulary word for the day and they even had to check their phones to see that I had used it correctly.

Thanks for the wonderful weekend with my very special family! We know illness in families and other obligations kept some of you from joining us and we hope for swift recoveries and always safe travels.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Happy New Year. I know it has been a long time since I blogged. I was reminded of that last night at a dinner I attended. Someone asked me why there have not been any blogs recently.
I did not have a good answer, although I have been sticking pretty close to home.

In December, I attended Bethel #5's Installation and my own Bethel meetings. Before one of them we went Christmas Caroling at the nursing home in Knightsville and after one the girls made stationary for the Veteran's Hospital patients. I also got to cape our Sr. Princess at our Installation. The Grand Family Christmas Party was lots of fun and I received many gifts for which I am most grateful. My Job's Daughter's Christmas Tree is really full of ornaments and I love every one of them.

Last night, the Coopers and I attended the Newby-Avery Banquet, an annual event of the Indiana Knights Templar. We were welcomed by George and Karen Ingles. George was the MC. Sharing our table was the recipient of the grant they awarded for research in eye care. Dr. Sun gave a presentation about his work with children who are born with glaucoma. I had always thought this was an older person's disease, but it isn't and it is so tragic when a baby gets it, because they cannot tell anyone. By the time it is noticed, the damage is done. It makes me proud to be associated with Masonic organizations, who contribute so much to others--Diabetes, Cancer, Eye Research, Shrine Hospitals, and of course our own HIKE. I must confess I did brag about the Daughters and all the work they do for HIKE.

I am getting ready for our All-Day School of Instruction and hope many of you are planning to attend on January 22.

Now, Karen, I have caught up and I promise to not to let so much time pass again before I blog.

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

I was looking for the Queen Bee on the web site and realized I had not blogged in quite some time. With preparing for Thanksgiving and then having the stomach flu thanks to the older twins, I have really gotten behind.

Last night I attended my own Bethel's meeting. I finally had refreshments. The girls made stationary for the VA Hospitals after the meeting. They are planning on going to the nursing home before their next meeting to sing Christmas carols. We got the results of the HIKE fundraiser last night--$170.00. How great is that! The girls are also collecting books for the Shrine Hospitals and newspapers for the Humane Society. I am really proud of the work they do for others.

Monday, I finally got to visit Bethel #37 in Shelbyville. It was cold but that reminded me of our own temple, during the winter. I gave Vanessa her HQ's blanket as she had to miss the OV for a basket ball game. They won the game though.

I know Installations took place last weekend, even with the bad weather (we got about 6 inches of snow). Congratulations to all the new officers and start learning your parts. Write up your Installations for the Bethel News. Since I will not be attending any of the Installations, I want to read all about them.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Saturday of this past weekend was really a full day. We started off with an awesome OV in Bloomington. They have to hold the record for the most offices filled by their own Bethel--14. Lunch after ward was terrific. They knew how much I like Italian food. I had made arrangements to come back and eat Thanksgiving dinner with them tonight, but with the cross for Ruth Goss I will not be able to do that.

We moved on to the next OV in Franklin with both Bethels #53 and #37. Here, the Daughters initiated 5 new members; 4 for Franklin and 1 for Shelbyville. This brings our number up to 38 initiated since June. We should have more this weekend. Thanks to the girls who came and helped them do the work. Before the meeting Callie Rose from #67 ran errands for me, so I want to thank her.

I lost my traveling companions after the 1st OV as Rustie went with Tiffany to the Shrine to present a program on Job's Daughters. She was singled out at the Shrine Youth Dance that night by one of the Shriners for her signing of "God Bless America." The dance had a good turnout and it was good to see our girls having so much fun. With such a long day we left a little early to get home at a decent hour.

On Sunday, I attended Bethel #121's Go-to-Church Sunday at the Center Point United Methodist Church. Some of us went out to lunch afterwards.

Monday, November 15, 2010

My life has certainly taken a sad turn in the last week. When Carol Goss Rose called to tell me Ruth had passed away just a week and a day after Audra, it was more than I wanted to believe. While my family was very close to Audra, Ruth had been there from the very beginning of my Job's Daughters' life. I remember sitting in the choir across the room from her and being so impressed with what a kind lady she was. The first Job-A-Rama might have been during Audra's term, but it was Ruth's idea. Shortly after I met Ruth, she was involved in an accident which hurt her hand, but she still helped clip the Betty Crocker coupons during Audra's year, so that the GGC would be able to give more scholarships.

I was GB Representative to Oregon when she was Supreme Guardian and was able to visit while she was there. Ruth, told the GG of OR to give the GBHQ and I her bed, because she did not need a big bed all to herself.

While working on Ruth's Degree of Royal Purple application, I asked why she had never been HQ of Bethel #2. I was told there was a Daughter at that time who had just lost her father. Ruth felt this was something this other young lady needed in her life, so Ruth bypassed this honor.

I close with the thought that this loving, gracious, dedicated lady had now gone to the Great Bethel on High and will deeply missed by all who knew her.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

We were almost home Sunday from the Leadership Workshop when we received the call from Tara Waller. A great lady, Audra Piner, had passed away the night before. I immediately flashed back to the 70's and was a GB girl again. That is when I met Audra and have loved and admired her every since. While her health had kept her from being with the Indiana Job's for several years, she was always with us in spirit and will remain so in our hearts.

Sunday, November 7, 2010

I cannot believe I have been up for several hours. I knew when we went to bed so early last night here in Kansas City, that with settting our clocks back this would happen. Thank goodness for the 24 hour business center. I have been sitting here sending and sorting emails.

Vicki, Tiffany, and I left Friday morning to drive here for the Supreme Leadership Workshop. We are actually in MO, not KS. It has been fun seeing old friends and making some new ones. One of the first to great us with a big hug was SBHQ Courtney Painter. She introduced us to 2 of the Daughters with her from Delaware. Friday night we had a get-acquainted session, where we did some exercises to meet new people. Then we stayed in the lobby visiting with MI people.

Saturday, at our breakfast session, we had a wonderful keynote speaker, who spoke about dealing with children at risk. Our other breakout sessions yesterday were also very informative and helpful. The Daughters from MO presented a fashion show during lunch. We ate with Denise, but she had meetings to attend most of the day, so did not get to spend much time with her. While Denise brought me back to the hotel after dinner, Vicki and Tiffany stayed at the shopping mall. I was able to get some more work done and just sit back and relax.

We have another breakfast session this am and then we will head back to IN. I am not looking forward to another 8 hour drive, but at least it is Vicki doing the driving. It will be good to be home.

Friday, November 5, 2010

Tuesday night I was so happy that Bethel #121 finally got to initiate. That makes #33 for the state. We had so much help from Bethels #2 and #22. The girls were awesome and the adults too for bringing them. I must apologize to Katie W from #22. I lost my place when you needed my help. You were able to go right on though and not let it throw you. A lesson for anyone holding the ritual--KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PAGE.

Also a big thank you to everyone who commented on the proposed ritual changes. Lets hope they pay attention and do not destroy our ritual.

I received a call from Ronda last night and she told me we sold over 700 pies. This is fantastic. We even shipped them out of state. Some went to AZ to a former Job's Daughter from my own Bethel #29. This just shows what we can do if we try. By carrying this on from year to year people will be used to us selling the pies and look forward to ordering them from us. I predict twice the sales next year.

Monday, November 1, 2010

What a lovely, if cool, weekend we just had. Mine started on Friday evening with the Lady Line Retreat in Plainfield. Stephanie, Edie, Tiffany, Elecia, Brittney, Lindsey and I shared dinner and then broke off to discuss lots of things. Later in the evening we got together as a group and talked over more things. After a really late night, breakfast came much too early and then more discussion. We hope we have come up with some ideas that will help our Order grow and thrive.

Elecia and I then traveled to Terre Haute for the first ever combined GB Region #2 and #5 Get-together. It was held at the Terre Haute Shrine Country Place and I had to talk Terri Crouch and Elecia in as GPS systems were not working or non existent. This is where the last OV will be in May, so at least these people will be able to find it. After an excellent lunch, Eli and I got to judge the costume contest.

After the get-together I had time to race home, unload my car, and then pick up Bethel #121 girls to go to our Bethel's Halloween Party at our Guardian's house. Kathy's favorite holiday is Halloween so she goes all out to decorate. Again, we had great food, then roasted Marshmallows around the fire. We also played an icky game of placing our hands in bags and trying to guess what we were actually feeling. Then after some ghost stories we headed home. The girls told tales all the way home. I told them I had to go into my house alone, but that did not stop Taylor O.

Tuesday, Bethel #121 is initiating and I am so happy.

Monday, October 25, 2010

What a long day we had Saturday. I met Rustie and her mom at 6:35 a.m. and we traveled down to New Albany for the OV of Bethels #24 and #42. The Daughters initiated 2 in #24 and 1 in #42. I told the back row how proud I was of them for being so quiet. Brunch before the OV was very tasty. Thanks to chef, Frank. Elecia, told us she updated her blog. I will have to check.

Our trip back to Indy was uneventful, as soon as I discovered I was going the wrong way when I left the temple. We stopped for late lunch-early dinner at MickeyD's. Genesis and Rustie had to run next door and have their picture taken with the Big Boy.

We got to the Coronation Ball and I loved the sayings on the walls and the decorations. I did not hear any 60's music though. The new reigning royalty looked beautiful. Congratulations to all the girls who took the test. I am proud of each of you. Thanks go out to Lori for another great Coronation Ball. Adrianna you never did come get me to dance.

Coming home Lyrray told me I had her all confused about where we were when we got to Brazil. I told her it was the way I cut through town. Then when I was ready to pull into my drive way, she said, "our car is at the Bowling Alley." Last week we left it at my house, since we were going to be gone overnight and I just thought it must still be there. It was late--after midnight. What can I say.

Friday, October 22, 2010

I forgot to mention in my previous post that our Mother Jacob's Room curator, Yvonne Himmelheber had the room open at during the soup cook-off. I sure enjoy going in and looking at our History. Also, I forgot to include Raquel's part in the GB Leadership. During lunch she gave us an excellent talk on proper eating for our bodies.

Now to get caught up on last week end. We had two wonderful Majority Ceremonies--first at Bethel #108 with #32 and #67 and then at #34 with #68. The girls did a great job of sending these members who have reached majority on their way to adulthood. We also had another baby dedication. Neena is such a sweetie and I am looking forward to the day when she and my granddaughter, Hailey are in Job's together. It was sure great to see my good friend Marilyn Wilson at Fishers. We go back a long way in Grand Bethel and that first Supreme we attended in Cleveland.

I received a copy of the October Bethel News at the first OV. The new contest for the web page is explained in the copy. Everyone needs to go online and read it.

After dinner at Sheridan, Genesis joined Rustie, Lyrray, and I on a trip up north to the Steel City DeMolay Halloween Party and Dance. The guys went all out--the decorations and the food were fantastic. The DeMolay State Sweetheart Sam was there as well as girls from both north Bethels. We adults went on to Kathy and Richard Coslets' to spend the night, while the girls went to Maddie's. I do not think they got much sleep.

On the way home we had lots to discuss for the upcoming pageant and Grand Session. I was sure exhausted when we reached the house. Thank goodness, I just had my own Bethel meeting at #121 to attend this week.

Don't forget we are selling Wick's pies and will be taking orders until November 4. See the bulletin on the web page. You can reach Ronda Prather or me if you have any questions.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

OK, so I am really behind. Weekend before last was the GB Leadership Workshop. It was so good to see how the girls responded to the self-esteem session and I really enjoyed watching them in their self-defense class. Elecia wanted to change this day from previous ones and she sure accomplished her goal. It was also good to see the adults who were working on their proficiency test. Remember, Daughters, encourage your adults to take the test. Challenge them and then challenge yourself, if you have not completed your own proficiency test.

Sunday, was the kick-off of Job's Daughters Week in Indiana. We started by having to wonderful church services at the Masonic Home. I had never managed to make it to the first service before, so was thrilled to finally be there. The crosses for both services were small, but beautiful. Thank you to the Daughters who did participate. Also, I have to brag on the Beehive Bunch. They did an excellent job of conducting the service, except for the sermon which the Masonic Home Chaplain delivered.

Then we adjourned to the basement for the soup cook-off. Again, I did not win, but I love my chili so much I will not change the recipe. The other soups I tasted were real good. The crowd loved them and it was good to see so many people in attendance. I got my noodles again this year at the bazaar, but this time from Bethel #37. I heard my good friend Brenda Morin made them. I also enjoyed the sugar-free candy from Bethel #24. Thanks Rachel C. for all the left pieces you did not sell.

The Past Grands held a meeting that day after lunch and it was sure nice to be welcomed by this group. Lynn and I gave our report on Supreme Session and I had to tell the story of my missing cell phone ringing during the business session.

More later, as I have to teach today.

Saturday, October 9, 2010

I am finally back home again in Indiana. I left Tuesday, with Vicki and Hubert and Kathryn Jo Haynes to attend the Grand Chapter of Nevada's Installation. Barbara Holmes, PGBHQ of Indiana, was installed as the Worthy Grand Matron. We have all known her for years and I was so thrilled to be able to be there for this very special night for her. Her Bethel, #5 of Las Vegas signed, "God Bless America" and one of the past Miss Nevada's sang, "I Hope You Dance." This was a very special song to Susie Holmes, PSBHQ and Barbara's daugher, who passed away during her reign as SBHQ. I got to meet some of the NV Job's and we also got to visit with PSG Janine Hinman of CA. She gave me some interesting things to think about.

The rest of our time was spent sightseeing. I had been to Vegas before, but only for a short time. I am not a gambler, so I spent my time shopping (M and M World is always my downfall) and taking it all in. There is so much that has changed since I was there 5 years ago. Hubert drove us out to the Hoover Dam, a true engineering marvel. I had never been there and so wanted to walk halfway across the dam, so I could say I have been to Arizona. I had on sandals though and did not think my feet would take the trip, so I will have to be content saying I have seen AZ for now. Ballagio Casino has the most fantastic fountain show and interior seasonal displays. We took lots of pictures. I want to thank my driver/tour guide (Hubert) and event planner/tour guide (Kathy) for a great trip. They really know Vegas, as they live there part of the year.

I was thrilled when I got on line and saw that #86 did initiate Tuesday night. I also was glad to see #8 and #22 will soon be initiating. I will not be able to attend either, but will be looking forward to meeting the new Daughters. I hope to see lots of people this weekend at GB Leadership and the State-wide Go to Church Sunday.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Sunday, Rustie, Debbi W. and I went to the Fort Wayne HIKE tea. What a nice time! We had fun just visiting with people who came and also trying to outbid each other at the silent auction. I did win one. Their newest Daughter, Hannah was quite the waitress. We sure appreciated all the attention.

I am staying close tonight and attending my own Bethel's council meeting. That is not their ages.

Sunday, September 26, 2010

We have had another set of wonderful OV's. Saturday started off with dedicating a beautiful baby girl, Kennedy Fryman, daughter of Jennifer, PHQ #107 and granddaughter of Barbara Morgan Roark, PHQ #107. Barbara and I have been friends for a long time and this was really special.
The majority ceremony during the OV for Bethels #107 and #38 for Felicity Witten and Jean Ward (sorry Jean can't think of your married name) was great. I have known both of these young ladies for years.

After the OV Elecia and I played "Are You Smarter than a Job's Daughter." Elecia beat me, but only because she can write faster. Thanks, HQ Emily, for being our Jeff Foxworthy.

Then we traveled to West Newton where Bethels #86 and #99 did a lovely tribute to the Bethel Flag. I knew the ceremonies were out there for this, but had never seen one done.

I have decided to have a little contest to see if you are reading the blog, Daughters. If I mention a Daugher's name in the blog and she responds back on the guest book to me, she will receive a little gift. Sorry Beehive Bunch, this contest excludes you. She will only have until the next blog appears.

Several of us are driving up to Fort Wayne today for #8's HIKE tea. This was such fun the last time I went. I am really looking forward to it.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I just got home from Crown Point and read the first issue of the Bethel News. I am soooo happy it is there, but now girls as Lynn said you need to make it yours. Let's see all the articles from your Bethel about all the fun things you are doing, introduce us to your new members, and let us know about fundraisers you are having. Don't forget the GB Librarian's contest. Email Mary L. with a copy of your article by the 9th of each month so she can get it to Julie C. by the 10th. Also, if you have some of your own literary works, ie. poems or short themes, please submit them. We know you are creative and we want you to shine, becaue you are the "BEST."

Now back to Crown Point and last nights initiation. Well, 2 of the 4 girls, who were to be initiated could not make it last night, but they did initiate Isabel and Christina to make Nos. 22 and 23. I rode up with Genesis, Felicity, and Lila. It was nice to sit back and let someone else do the driving. It was still after 1:00 when I got to Vicki's to spend the night. Bethel #44 girls, you really worked and those of you who did more than one part, it is always impressive. You will be ready to initiate again real soon, so keep studying. You will have to ask Mary how I helped her brush up on the Chaplain's part. Thanks to the protems. I was asked if you were sisters.

I have to go and study my part for our Eastern Star initiation Friday night. In a moment of madness I said I would protem Conductress as I am treasurer and do not have a part in initiation. I hope to see many of you on Saturday at the OV's at Brownsburg and West Newton.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

I may have recovered from the weekend, but I am not sure. It seems to take longer every year.
First, I want to thank everyone who helped do anything to make Job-A-Rama a success. That should cover everyone. Daughters, your smiling faces made it all worthwhile. Of course, I did not do much myself, but I am glad you enjoyed yourselves. Your creativity at the Ugly Bug Ball was just as I knew it would be. You all have such good ideas and your desciptions of your bugs were priceless. I really enjoyed the skits this year also. I think they were the best ever. Thanks, to the Grand Family and Tiffany for my book.

I really enjoyed being with the Supremes (that is not the singing group.) I am so glad they were able to be with us when we were just having fun, instead of being stuffy and uptight and nervous. I have known Toni for years and she is always ready for a good time. Rick and Courtney were able to share in our Hoosier Hospitality and I think both had fun. I just hope you were able to get to know them while they were with us. Toni gave her pictures to the supreme webmaster (who just happens to be her husband), so check it out--under "what's new" on the Supreme Webpage we have pictures of our JAR.

The kitchen crew was fabulous, because so were the meals. Girls, when asked these people said sure we will be glad to help and some even called up out of the blue and said can we help in the kitchen? Your adults love you and will go to great lengths to see that you have a good time, and in this case good meals. We did use ideas from the Daughters for the menus, so I hope you liked them. I tried to get my own Bethel Daughters out of the dish room, but they were having so much fun I couldn't. I bet they aren't that willing to help at home.

Masonic Home Festival had the biggest cross, I believe, in several years. Kathy Carter counted 72 and said she may have missed some in the middle. You were beautiful. I was standing by a future Job's Daughter and she had her hands in supplication and was singing with you. That is when I really teared up. Afterwards, I asked if I could give her a hug. I wish I could have hugged all of you.

UPDATE: Some of you may have heard that Megan's in-laws were in a motorcycle wreck on Sat. night in KY. They are both home now--Tim with every rib broken and Lisa with some broken and some cracked. Tim also has a broken shoulder blade and Lisa a cracked tail bone. They are both so lucky and I thank God that he answered all the prayers that were going up for them.

Monday night I attended #32 Beech Grove. Andi was intiated and I guess that makes 21 since June. I keep losing track. It is so great. I heard at JAR of petitions being read at several other Bethels. I may have to set a new goal for the year. Can we make this a year we show a gain? I BELIEVE we can.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

I spent Labor Day afternoon in Clinton #5's ice cream booth at the Little Italy Festival. This was my first time to attend this festival. I wish I had gone when I could have eaten some of their delicious ice cream. We were fairly busy and started to run out of ice cream (their supplier had inexplicably not made a delivery that morning.) I was glad my shift was over when we ran out of the spumoni. I heard you get yelled at in Italian when that happens. Allison, I hope you got some sleep Monday night after working two shifts.

For the other Bethels, who have not asked me yet, remember if my schedule permits, I will come and help you work a fundraiser.

Tuesday, I was able to attend the meeting at #44 in Crown Point. They read another petition, so will be initiating 4 in two weeks. Way to go! Actually, several of the Bethels are really doing a super job of getting the new members and I am proud of all of them. We have to believe in what we are doing to make others believe we are the best.

Don't forget to bring you pennies for the HIKE pie contest at JAR. Lynell told me the pie would be sugar-free in case I get it, but I told the others we should combine our money and make sure Lynn gets to eat the pie.

See you this weekend.

Thursday, September 2, 2010

I am staying close to home this week, as I have such a busy weekend. Monday, I attended #121's council meeting. Even though I am no longer on council, I miss meeting with them.

Tuesday, Bethel #121 hosted the 5th Tuesday dinner at the Temple with the Stars and Masons as our guests. We had the biggest crowd we have ever had--around 65. Our Grand Sr. Custodian, Bill Poff is quite the man at the grill. He cooked all the hamburgers and hot dogs. After dinner, our Guardian, Kathy Strange introduced our HQ Amanda H.; Miss Indiana Rustie M.; our GB Region 5 Chairman Jasmine R.; and me. Amanda and Jasmine also talked with a 10 year old present, Makayla and she seems real interested. Harley was also there. We will be reading her petition very soon.

Three more new Job's Daughters this week and more coming up this month. It doesn't. To catch up. Wednesday, I traveled to #22 to see another initiation. It was so good to be there. Amber has already been active with the Bethel, so I believe she will easily fit right into all their activites. The food after was so gooood. I really do love Italian the best.

Speaking of good food. Thursday night, I was honored to be a guest at First Bethel Guardian Council. Thanks, Jane for the sloppy Joes. I would rather have had your cottage cheese, but I could not eat it and the sloppy Joes, I could. We had a lot of good fellowship and Lynn and I reported on Supreme Session. Everyone needs to ask him, what a Tim Tam Slam is.

The OV's, Saturday, started off with 2 more new members being initiated into Bethel #2, Mikayla and Steffani. Mikayla is the stepdaughter and niece of two of our Daughters of the Nile members, so I had actually talked with her about joining last March at our Installation. I believe this makes something like number 15 and 16 since June and we have another one to be initiated at Shelbyville Monday evening. Then September starts and already girls are lining up to join. Daughters and adults you must be creating a "buzz" about our Order.

Did I mention that we had Italian for lunch at Clinton? Wonderful. I loved the smell of garlic and the taste.

In the afternoon, I actually got to do something, that I cannot say has been a dream of mine, but was so special. Our first baby to be dedicated this year was Hailey Mae Lucille Carter, my own little sunshine and granddaughter. The reason that it was never a dream, was that after the twins I thought Megan was finished having babies.

The Obligation Ceremony was also so special--not only sharing with the active Daughters, but also the Majority Members in the room. Did you know that once a year each Bethel is supposed to perform the majority and/or obligation ceremony at either a regular or special meeting? It is in the by-laws.

I want to inform everyone that Julie Cox is our assistant web master in charge of Bethel News.
Please send your articles about Bethel activities to her by the 10th of each month and then she will forward them to Tiffany, so all she has to do is post one file. Also, begin sending all media releases to Julie. Remember, if you send her or Tiffany a picture, you must have a media release on file for everyone in the picture.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Last night at Bethel #38, Tiffany Smith was initiated. I think this makes our 12th new Daughter since June. It was good to see the girls from #107 who came to help. You all did a good job, especially the ones who jumped from station to station--way to go Jamie and Mahaley. Genesis was there to preside and Elecia sat with the new Daughter and helped her get through the rest of the meeting.

Bethel #38 told me they were all going to Job-A-Rama. I am looking forward to it. Girls, our Supreme Bethel HQ, Courtney Painter will be there, also. There is still time to register.

I forgot to mention that Saturday at Fort Wayne, Lynn and I installed Carey Carter as our Grand Chaplain. It was also his birthday, so now he will always remember what he did on his 55th birthday.

Tonight, I am visiting #22 to welcome our 13th new Daughter. That is my lucky number.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The first OV's are history and what a glorious one. Bethels #8 and #27 did the majority ceremony for 4 lovely young women to crown their years as active daughters. Fort Wayne lost some wonderful active members, but will now gain some wonderful adult workers.

The afternoon OV with Bethels #25 and #115 gave me the oportunity to renew my obligation along with them. This was wonderful as I have not participated in this ceremony in a long while. Thank you for not making me kneel.

I missed sending congrats to the Region #5 ladies who washed cars for HIKE. They earned enough for each one of them to get their pin and white dove. I am so happy you are working for HIKE and my car sure needed the wash, so I am sorry I felt so bad that day that I forgot.
Way to go--Jasmine, Amanda, Rustie, Macy, and Mara.

I am off to #38 this evening. The lady, Patty Reardon, has a daughter, Heather, who served as SBHQ several years ago and she came to Indiana's JAR. The whole family are dedicated workers and will be an asset.

The proposal to do away with the relationship requirement was defeated again.

At the Grand Luncheon, I learned to make a Tim Tam Slam. Ask Lynn what it is. He has tried it but I haven't had the chance to do it yet.

The SB Installation went well and the girls looked lovely. I hope they all get a chance to travel in our Job's Daughter world, so they can enjoy their experience so much more.

Saturday, I got to spend most of the day with my niece and nephew and my college roommate--they all live in Denver. We visited Garden of the Gods, Old Colorado, and Manitou Springs. The scenery was amazing and we got to catch up a lot.

The Supreme Council Installation was great except for the musical chairs. The floor was small, so it was very crowded until everyone was installed. Vicki assumed the office of Supreme 4th Messenger and made us all proud. A lot of us went out afterwards as a final farewell to Supreme. We were up early as we wanted to get away as soon as we could. The drive home was really uneventful--just long.

I received the call last night about Ann Gobin, a long time Job's worker, passing. I guess it is because I am sitting through all the business meetings which I have never had to do before.
I think the last thing I talked about was on Tuesday.
Wednesday morning Lynn and I had breakfast with the other GGs and AGGs and Toni and Rick (the new Supreme and Associate Supreme--or they will be Sat.) A lot of the people we remembered from other get-togethers with them.

Then those meetings started. We heard lots of reports and started on the 46 ammendments. We still have over 1/2 to do and some of the ones coming up are the real controversial ones.

The All Job's Daughter's Luncheon was fun--even Stacey and Hailey came and we fed her a lemon--Hailey.

Back to meetings. Then we had the formal banquet. Toni sat with us at our table. We were sort of rushed out of there to the Formal Opening.
It was definitely different. All the daughters got to sit in the chairs and the adults had to take the bleacher seats. It also lasted from 7:30 until 10:45. At first, since we were not in the program Lynn and I thought we were not going to take the usual turn around the floor as GG and AGG, but suddenly they asked all of us to line up. They did actually remember to bring us in though but we were then taken to an area and had to sit in the bleachers way up high. The flag ceremony lasted 40 minutes, but Mahaley and Maddy did a good job. Elecia participated in the Necrology Ceremony and Rustie accepted Amanda Thomlinson's scholarship for her. Way to go Amanda!

This am we had Supreme Bethel and I must have let out a squeal when they pulled Indiana for SBJP, cause everyone turned around and looked at me. Way to go Rustie, Lindsey, and Mahaley. We are proud of you.

The Royalty Luncheon as usual was fun and we had a good IN turnout. The men went to Men of Job's luncheon.

The states of CA and MI invited us to Oakland in 2013 for Supreme Session. Their song was real cute.

We started in on more reports and ammendments until someone reminded the Supreme Guardian there was a pageant that night and some people had dinners to attend.

Then the pageant. We were real proud of Rustie and the way she represented IN. After the top ten were named and they answered their question (it was a pretty decent one this year) I called the winner. The girl from Brazil was very good and I hope she can travel to a lot of the US.
Ask Brittney Utley about having to answer a final question. She did a good job too.

I am going to bed now as election starts at 8:00 in the morning. I also do not want to blog about my abilities as a waitress, but ask Lindsey Noland and she can tell you. The Indiana Get-together was fun and thanks Kathy Cooper for taking care of it for us.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Yesterday was such a full day I did not have time to post, but I did have time to talk with our Miss Mandy and mom, Penny (wished her a Happy Birthday). By the way, today is George Ingles Birthday.

We started the day by wishing the girls on the Ritual Team luck and waited until they were finished. We then wished Mahaley, Rustie, and Genesis good luck on their individual catagories. After that we took off with Rustie's mom, Lyrray in tow to drive up Pike's Peak. Megan did all the driving and I just had anxiety attacks all the way up and down from mile marker 13. We even had road construction. We did get some great shots of the scenery and only had to rest 1/2 and hour on the way down to cool our breaks.

When we got back we wished Rustie luck as she started her competition.

The HIKE dance was in the evening and the uniform for Indiana was the GB T-shirts, which everyone loved.

More later, I am on my way to the Formal Banquet.

Still Monday, August 2, 2010

I thought I would do this before going to bed, because I do not plan to wake up at 2:10 a.m. tomorrow. The Messenger Team has just gone to practice. They compete at 8:40 in the morning. We attended the talent show this evening and the performing arts awards were given out. Genesis was the only Indiana competitor and she came away with 3rd place in the Speech catagory.

This morning was spent registering, checking out session sales, and visiting with old friends from all over. The Alumni Luncheon was next and we were in a ballroom with a view on three sides of the mountains. It was spectacular. After lunch Megan and I took Stacey and Hailey to the Focus on the Family campus here in Colorado Springs. They had fun playing in the children's area and I enjoyed being somewhere I had heard about from its founder, James Dobson, for years.

I actually got a one hour nap with Hailey after we got back. Then saw Elecia and Becca who had a blast on the rafting trip. The good weather ended with an absolute downpour, which destroyed their plans for laying out. We ran out for McD's (Stacey's choice) during a lull and got back before it started up again. I hope that is the end of rain. Now I am off to bed.

Monday, August 2, 2010

We made it to Colorado Springs! We stopped at the Air Force Academy on our way in and boy, was it impressive. The beauty of it cannot be described. Megan said if you had to be stuck somewhere for 4 years, this would be the place to do it.

We got checked in without much bother but a long wait in line. Saw lots of old friends in the lobby--from both Indiana and other jurisdictions. Stacey wanted pizza, so we took a breather and ordered in. We had promised Hailey she would not have to get in her car seat again. We wondered around the hotel for a little, and I ran into Rustie and her mom, Elecia and her mom, Denise and Kathy Coslet and friends from WI and NB. I am still on Indiana time though and we turned in early. The messenger team was practicing at 9:00 pm, but I was sound asleep by then. That is why I am up so early doing this. I thought a long walk around the hotel and maybe I would get a couple more hours of sleep. Hope, hope.

Sunday, August 1, 2010

We have made it to Salina, KS. Yesterday was pretty uneventful. Just a lot of miles. The car is packed to the hilt. I do not know where we could put anything else.

Heard from Bonita last night, so know she, Elecia, Rustie, and Lyrray made it in all right. She also said she had seen Wanda, so know that part of the family arrived safely. Vicki and Jim are behind us about 25 miles in Topeka. When they checked in to their hotel Past Supreme Guardian Judy Masters was also checking in. With her was another good friend from KS, Carolyn Block (she attended IN's GS Installations this year). Mom Judy was SG when Megan was SB Marshal, so can't wait to see her.

This is my 20th Supreme Session. I would have never believed it all those years ago in 1971, that I would have been attending as your GG in 2010.

Time to get on the road.

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Yesterday, I drove up north to help with the Corn Booth, although we did not have much business with all the rain. Business was beginning to pick up as we left as the sun came out and more people were getting to the fair. Without a doubt that is the best corn anywhere. It was good to see everyone from Bethels #44 and #54. They were generating a lot of questions and interest about our organization, so perhaps we will see some new members in both bethels soon.

I arrived home today with almost all of Megan and the girls' things on my front porch to pack in my car for Supreme. I really do not know where we will put everything, but it has been done before. We are not leaving til Saturday and I have a million things left to do before then, so the next news will probably be from Supreme.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Bethel #2 extended a very warm welcome last night--hot may be the correct word. Rustie and I drove to Princeton to the Worthy Grand Patron's Reception. Bill Shoulders is a fine man, who appreciates all the Masonic youth groups in Indiana even if he does spend a lot of time with the Rainbow (his wife Lynn, is their Supreme Inspector). It was good to see Job's people there also, even if we did have to cut our stay short so we could get back to Greencastle.

We arrived in plenty of time for the DeMolay Installation of new officers. James Gordon, the new State Master Councilor is a great guy, from what I have seen of him so far and I am looking forward to getting to know him better this year. One of our own Job's Daughters officially became the new State Sweetheart, Samantha Burtram from Bethel #54. She will have some big shoes to fill as SarahBeth did a remarkable job last year, but I know she can do it. Sam, we are looking forward to sharing this year with both you and James.

Many of the Daughters were in attendance at the dance after installation. I know I saw girls from at least 9 Bethels. It was good to see most of the Beehive Bunch. I believe most of the girls had a great time, even if things were a little awkward with one of the DeMolay. I won't breathe another word, but remember, you can always say, "I don't believe my Grand Guardian would approve."

As we said our goodbye's, we were calling see you at Supreme. It was good to see the Grand Master and his wife Paula again. The State Master Councilor is the grandson of some very special friends of mine from Star's District 7. He sure made them proud with the job he did.

Friday, I was off to Plainfield to try to find a location for the lady line retreat--Anderson did not work. Then Vicki and I joined girls from #107 Brownsburg--Mahaley, Hope, and Miranda at their booth at O'Reilly Raceway Park. Eryka Trout kept us all in control, even though there was not that much business early on. With the heat we had to come up with some ways to keep cool and the helping hands were the best. It brought back a lot of memories from working in the past for #121 and the GGC.

Today is Mandy's 19th birthday. We also got the good news that Elizabeth Fisher, PHQ #34, was elected to Grand Charity at Rainbow's Grand Assembly. This is a high honor for her. I also discovered that Lynn Shoulders, the lady who is the Supreme Inspector for Rainbow in Indiana likes bees, too. Rustie and I had our usual rainy weather--rain and then stop, rain and then stop. Our miles were 440, actually hers are more than mine because she starts from Terre Haute.
